Fiona is one of the most prolific food writers around, with columns, blogs and a vast number of books to her name. Her first book for Absolute, Beyond Baked Beans (2003) was the first in a series dedicated to ensuring that students understood good food and were given good recipes to practice that knowledge. Beyond Baked Beans Green (2004) and Beyond Baked Beans Budget (2006) came along and cemented Fiona as the authority on student food. In 2009, an edited and enhanced collection of Fiona's student recipes appeared, The Ultimate Student Cookbook, with lots of new content and introducing three new hugely talented (student) food writers in the process (Signe Johansen, James Ramsden and Guy Millon). 2004 saw the release of Fiona's Sausage and Mash, which explored one of the great comfort foods via an array of wonderful dishes that incorporated it. In 2006, Meat & Two Veg was released, extending on the comfort food theme, this time enlarged to explore a Great British institution in its own right. In the autumn of 2008, The Frugal Cook appeared almost at the exact time that the country officially fell into recession. To this day, Fiona remains one of the most prominent and respected spokespeople for frugal eating, not least via the wonderful blog she set up alongside the book. So much so in fact, that in 2011 a brand-spanking newly designed edition of The Frugal Cook appeared, looking better and tighter than before and priced more keenly to enable it to continue to be the default book for all who need to carefully choose and budget their food.
